I’m Tony Scott, a web designer and developer specialising in WordPress, based in West London UK.

My interests include open source,
economics, open standards, semantic web, linked data, music, photography, broadcasting, science fiction and real ale.

I’ve been on the internet since the early 1990’s, and in 1995 I became involved in a joint BECTU and NUJ project Media Unions, involving Mike Holderness, Tony Lennon and myself.

In 1997 Tony Lennon and myelf built the first version of bectu.org.uk, one of the earliest union sites in the UK.

A bit of history

From 1993 to 2007 I worked at BBC Television Centre as a Lighting and Vision Controller, and before that as a Lighting and Vision Assistant for five years. I worked on all the shows produced for BBC network television, everything from Top of the Pops to Grandstand.

I was based at Lime Grove Studios London from 1986 to 1988, then the BBC Current Affairs Centre, which included working as part of the camera crews on the early days of breakfast television.

Following graduation I joined the BBC in 1981, based in Manchester working in studio and outside broadcast cameras.

I attended Manchester Metropolitan University studying Graphic Design. The course was housed in the former Capitol Cinema, later ABC television studios, in Didsbury.

I was brought up in Stalybridge, Manchester and educated at Hyde Grammar School before taking a one year Art Foundation Course at Tameside College.
